Recovery Fee

In addition to the service charges invoiced by US Mobile, the Company also imposes a separate Recovery Fee (“RF”) on certain plans. The RF is based on a sliding scale and can vary based on the plan selected. The RF is a discretionary fee collected and retained by US Mobile to help recover and defray certain costs the Company incurs, including:
  1. Federal and state regulatory fees associated with Universal Service programs, the provision of telecommunications services for the sight and hearing impaired, local number portability, and North American Numbering Plan administration; and
  2. Administrative costs, fees, and expenditures related to compliance with federal and state regulatory programs and annual FCC regulatory fee obligations; and
  3. State and local transaction tax and 911 fee obligations associated with the provision of telecommunications services.
The RF is not a government tax, or government-imposed fee.

Both this and the $2 service fee were unwelcome surprises after receiving my SIM.

    1. Hi George,

We are sorry to hear that, allow us to explain, the Regulatory Cost Recovery Fee is a charge associated with payment of government imposed fees and to recover the costs of compliance with government imposed regulatory requirements. You can read more about it in our terms & conditions but it includes charges for things like Emegerncy-911 services. This charge is subject to change from time to time as the cost of compliance changes. This is different from our $2 service fee which is imposed by our carrier partners for access to their networks. If you have any further questions just go ahead and write to us at [email protected]

Could you please let me know in advance how much fees and taxes will be for a 300 min talk, 300 text, and 1 GB plan would be? I am in New York.

    1. Hi Jenny! So $5 + $3 + 10 = $18 for the plans. There is a $2 service fee, which is the imposed by our carrier partners for access to their networks, as well as the regulatory cost recovery charge, which is a charge associated with payment of government imposed fees and to recover the costs of compliance with government imposed regulatory requirements. You may consider it the tax.

This charge is subject to change from time to time as the cost of compliance changes, but at the time of writing that works out to be $3.31, bringing your total up to $23.31. I hope you find this information helpful. Please refer to usmobile.com/plans to see what else we have to offer, or click the chat icon to speak to a representative at any time.

What about if I live in PA but were to travel to VT? Am I still charged for regulatory charges?

    1. Regulatory cost recovery charge is a charge associated with payment of government imposed fees and to recover the costs of compliance with government imposed regulatory requirements. You may consider it tax. As such it is charged on all plan purchases/renewals regardless of your current location.
