Unlocking your phone
All about locked phones — what it means, why we do it, and how to get your device unlocked.
Some phones sold by US Mobile are temporarily locked from switching to other carriers. We do this to keep prices low and to ensure our best offers are going to our real customers. We will always specify if a particular phone is locked in the device sales' terms and conditions.
Compared to most carrier locks, ours is short — devices generally unlock after just 60 days of continuous usage on a US Mobile line, unless a longer period is specified in the offer terms.
After the required period of continuous usage on a US Mobile line, if your account is in good standing, the phone will unlock automatically. We’ll take care of it — no action needed from you.
If the locked device is not activated on a US Mobile line, it will still unlock automatically 12 months after its first connected to the internet
A locked phone only works with a specific carrier — in this case with US Mobile. An unlocked phone is not restricted to a particular carrier.
Luckily, US Mobile gives you access to all three major mobile networks, with the power to switch between them any time — so you'll always have options. Plus, a locked device doesn't affect roaming. We offer roaming in more than 180 countries worldwide!
If you're planning to purchase an international data-only eSIM, please reach out to our customer service team before your trip to get setup. You will not be able to use an international eSIM with a locked device.
You can still stay connected abroad by using international roaming, included or available as an add-on purchase with our plans. International roaming will work with your locked device, and lets you use your existing SIM and phone number in supported destinations.
Yes. Deployed military personnel with US Mobile accounts in good standing are eligible to have their phones unlocked early. Please contact us to request an early unlock due to military deployment.
No. If you bring your own device to use with US Mobile service, the device locking policy does not apply.
If you purchased a locked phone originally sold by US Mobile from another individual, the device will still be subject to our locking policy.
The device locking policy is subject to our Terms & Conditions and may change without notice. US Mobile reserves sole discretion to deny any request for mobile device unlocking.
