International by-the-gig plans

Our by-the-gig plans let you share a data pool across multiple lines — and you can take your data with you internationally. International by-the-gig plans give you all the benefits of our by-the-gig plans with two roaming options: North America only (Canada and Mexico), or our Global plan covering 180+ supported countries.

All lines need to have some domestic usage (inside the US) before roaming is turned on.

Who is this for?

If you prefer our by-the-gig plans and want to travel and roam with your lines, then this is for you.

It's easy: You get to keep using your same number abroad and you won't have to activate or deactivate any new lines or SIM cards on your phone. It's flexible: You can keep enjoying the flexibility of our by-the-gig plans while traveling plus you can top up your international data whenever needed (up to 3 times per cycle) It's affordable: Traveling as a group has never been more affordable. Rather than buying international data for each line, share it using our international by-the-gig plan.

How it works

Your international by-the-gig plan covers talk, text, and data — here's how each works.

For talk and text

All lines on your international by-the-gig plan get 100 minutes and 100 texts per cycle. If you run out of roaming talk or text on any line, you can get a top up.

For data

All lines on your international by-the-gig plan share the roaming data that you've purchased for your plan. Any time you're running low, you can get a Top-up on your plan to cover you for the rest of the cycle.

Types of plans

There are two types of international by-the-gig plans. You'll want to pick whichever one fits your needs best depending on where you travel.

North America by-the-gig plan

For use in the US, Canada, and Mexico.

Global by-the-gig plan

For use in 180+ supported countries (depending on network). For details on which countries are covered, view our international roaming page.

How to get an international by-the-gig plan

You can get an international by-the-gig plan two ways: create one directly when setting up a new pool, or convert an existing domestic pool.

Create a new international pool

When setting up a new pool, you can choose North America or Global coverage right from the start.

  1. Sign in to your Account Dashboard.
  2. Select Add a Line in the sidebar.
  3. Select By the Gig, then New data pool, then Continue.
  4. Under Choose coverage, select North America or Global.
  5. Set the number of lines and pool size, then select Continue.
  6. Add a SIM Card Starter Kit if needed, then select Continue to checkout.
  7. Review your payment and shipping info, then select Checkout.

Convert an existing domestic pool

If you already have a domestic by-the-gig pool, you can switch it to an international plan.

  1. Sign in to your Account Dashboard.
  2. Go to My Pools and select the pool you want to convert.
  3. Select Switch to International in the top right corner.
  4. Select North America or Global, then select how much data you want.
note

If you're upgrading your plan, make sure you choose your Top-up settings the way you want them — they won't carry over automatically.

  1. Choose whether to switch immediately or at the end of cycle.
note

If you switch immediately, you won't be refunded for your current pool or prorated for the upgrade.

  1. Select a payment method and Save changes.

I've run out of talk, text, or data. How do I add a top-up?

You can add a top-up from your account dashboard. The steps differ slightly depending on whether you need more data or more talk and text.

Top-ups for data

  1. Sign in to your Account Dashboard on the website.
  2. Go to My Pools and select your international pool.
  3. At the top right corner, select + Add Top Up.
  4. Select the top-up amount from the sidebar.
  5. Select your payment method and then Save Changes.

Top-ups for talk and text

  1. Sign in to your Account Dashboard on the website.
  2. Go to My Pools and select your international pool.
  3. Select Lines to view the individual lines on the pool. Then select the individual line that you want to buy the Talk/Text Top Up for.
  4. Under International Travel, select Purchase International.
  5. Select the Talk and Text Only top-up option
  6. Select your payment method and then Place Order.

How to switch back to a domestic by-the-gig plan

  1. Sign in to your Account Dashboard on the website.
  2. Go to My Pools and select the pool you want to convert.
  3. At the top right corner, select Switch to Domestic.
  4. Choose how much data you need for your plan
note

Your pool will downgrade to a domestic pool from the next billing cycle.

  1. Choose your payment method and then select Save changes.
