New customers pay $15/mo on any plan for the first 3-, 6- or 12-month term ($45, $90 or $180 up front), then the regular price for that term. After a 6-month term the regular price is $20/mo (6GB), $25/mo (17GB), $35/mo (23GB) or $35/mo (Unlimited). Mint Unlimited includes 50GB of premium data and 20GB of hotspot. Taxes are extra.

Verizon’s AutoPay price needs paper-free billing too. On top of the plan: taxes, a $3.78-a-line administrative charge (rising to $4.69 on November 15, 2026), surcharges Verizon says can add 16% to 58%, and a $40 activation fee per line. Verizon also sells a Simplicity plan at $30 a line, but only with AutoPay and switching in from another carrier.

What You’re Actually Paying

The first year of one unlimited line, before taxes and Verizon’s percentage surcharges, which depend on your address.

So Verizon’s cheapest unlimited costs more than twice Mint’s in plan charges alone ($780 against $360), and that’s before Verizon’s surcharges. Welcome also has no hotspot. New US Mobile lines can pay $199 for the first year of Starter, then $270/yr. More budget picks in our cheap phone plans guide.

Network Coverage: T-Mobile (Mint) vs Verizon

Mint says on its coverage page that it’s on the T-Mobile network, and Verizon runs its own. So the real question is T-Mobile vs Verizon where you live and work.

We don’t rate coverage ourselves. Check both maps for your address, and look at independent results from Ookla’s Speedtest reports and Opensignal for your area. Our T-Mobile vs Verizon page compares the two networks head to head.

One difference worth knowing: Verizon Welcome’s data is deprioritized, and Mint Unlimited can slow after 50GB of premium data a month. If speed under load matters, Verizon Plus or Ultimate, both with unlimited premium data, is the step up.

Verizon’s advantages are stores, phone financing with trade-ins, and the extras on Plus and Ultimate. If you buy phones outright and don’t need a store, they’re harder to justify. For prepaid picks across the market, see our best prepaid phone plans.

Mint Mobile vs Verizon for Families

Verizon’s per-line price drops a lot with more lines: four lines of Welcome are $30 each with AutoPay, before taxes and surcharges. With 3 or more lines and a new smartphone line, Verizon also adds a $10/mo account credit for 36 months. We didn’t record Mint’s family pricing this month, so check Mint for groups. How We Compared Mint Mobile and Verizon

US Mobile wrote this comparison and is one of the carriers in it. Every price was read on the carrier’s own plan pages or FCC Broadband Facts labels on , and we saved screenshots of those pages. Mint’s network is from its own coverage page. Where a carrier doesn’t publish something, we say “Carrier does not say” rather than guess. The first-year table adds only published prices and fees; your taxes and Verizon’s percentage surcharges depend on your address. The previous edition is the October 2026 edition, and the main article is updated as prices change.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Mint Mobile or Verizon better in 2026?

For price, Mint: Unlimited is $30/mo on its 12-month plan, before taxes, against Verizon Unlimited Welcome at $65/mo with AutoPay, before taxes and surcharges. Verizon is the pick if you want stores, phone financing, or Ultimate’s 200GB of full-speed hotspot and unlimited premium data.

How much cheaper is Mint Mobile than Verizon?

On unlimited, Mint is $360 for 12 months and Verizon Unlimited Welcome is $780 a year with AutoPay, so Mint saves $420 in plan charges. Verizon also adds a $3.78-a-line monthly charge, a $40 activation fee and surcharges it says can add 16% to 58%, so the real gap is wider.

Does Mint Mobile use Verizon’s network?

No. Mint says on its coverage page that it’s on the T-Mobile network. If you want Verizon’s network for less, Visible runs on it at $25/mo with taxes included, and Total Wireless does too, from $40/mo ($35 with AutoPay) with taxes included.

Is Verizon’s coverage really better than Mint Mobile’s?

It depends on where you are, because they use different networks: Verizon’s own and T-Mobile’s. We don’t rate coverage ourselves. Check both maps for your address and independent tests from Ookla and Opensignal, then pick the network that’s strongest where you spend your time.

Is Mint Mobile really $15 a month?

Yes, for new customers, but only for the first term and paid up front: $45 for 3 months, $90 for 6 or $180 for 12, on any plan, before taxes. After that the regular price applies, such as $30/mo for Unlimited on the 12-month plan ($360) or $40/mo on the 3-month plan.

Does Verizon Welcome include hotspot?

No. Verizon Unlimited Welcome has no hotspot. Unlimited Plus ($80/mo with AutoPay) includes 30GB, and Unlimited Ultimate ($95/mo) includes 200GB at full speed. Mint Unlimited and US Mobile Unlimited Starter both include 20GB, which makes them the cheaper way to get hotspot here.

Can I switch from Verizon to Mint Mobile?

Yes, and you can bring your number. You’ll pay for 3, 6 or 12 months up front, and your phone needs to work on T-Mobile’s network, which Mint uses. Check Mint’s coverage map at your address first. If you’d rather keep paying month to month, US Mobile Starter is $25/mo with taxes included.

Which is better for families, Mint Mobile or Verizon?

Verizon’s per-line price drops with more lines: four lines of Unlimited Welcome are $120/mo with AutoPay, before taxes and surcharges. We didn’t record Mint’s family pricing this month. US Mobile’s shared By the Gig 10GB plan is $44/mo for four lines with taxes included.

What is US Mobile and how does it compare to both?

US Mobile is a no-contract carrier with access to all three major US wireless networks, named a Consumer Reports Top Rated Cell Phone Service Provider (2026). Consumer Reports does not endorse products or services. Unlimited Starter is $25/mo with taxes included, against $30/mo for Mint Unlimited on a 12-month plan and $65/mo for Verizon Welcome with AutoPay.

Should I pick Mint Mobile, Verizon, or US Mobile?

Pick Mint if you’re happy paying a year up front on T-Mobile’s network. Pick Verizon if you want stores, financing or Ultimate’s extras and don’t mind the price. Pick US Mobile if you want $25/mo month to month with taxes included and the choice of all three major networks.
