Spam detection and web filtering
US Mobile offers a few safety features to help protect your line. Which ones you get depends on your network — here's what's available and where.
| Network | Available feature | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Warp | Spam Detect | Flags suspected spam and scam calls so you can screen them. |
| Dark Star | Spam Protect | Labels suspected spam and fraud calls and blocks known fraud calls — included automatically. |
| Light Speed | Spam Protect | Blocks or flags suspected spam and scam calls — your choice. |
| Light Speed | Web Filtering | Blocks adult content when browsing on the cellular network. |
Spam Detect for Warp
With Spam Detect, you'll receive extra information to help you screen your calls and protect yourself against scams and unwanted spam. When someone calls you, you'll get helpful information alongside the call:
- Spam warnings — Calls from suspected spammers, robocallers, or fraudsters will be labeled as "Potential Spam" so you can decide whether to answer.
- Caller ID — When available, the caller's name appears for legitimate calls.
Spam Detect doesn't block any calls. You will still receive all your calls as usual and be able to screen them yourself.
You can turn Spam Detect on or off anytime from your line's Add-Ons section.
Spam Protect for Dark Star
Spam Protect on Dark Star is included automatically at no extra cost — there's nothing to add and nothing to set up. It works in the background to help you screen and avoid spam, scam, and fraud calls:
- Call warnings — Suspicious calls are labeled on your incoming call screen with a category like "Spam Risk," "Telemarketer," or "Fraud Risk," so you can decide whether to answer.
- Fraud blocking — Calls from numbers reported as fraud on our network are automatically blocked.
- Verified and branded calls — Authenticated calls show a verified checkmark, and calls from participating businesses display the business name, on supported devices.
Spam Protect on Dark Star is built into your line, not a separate add-on, so there's nothing to manage from your line's Add-Ons section.
Spam Protect for Light Speed
Spam Protect is our call-screening add-on for Light Speed lines. It gives you two ways to handle suspected spam and scam calls — pick the one that fits you. Spam Protect has two modes, and only one can be active at a time:
- Spam Block — Blocks known spam and scam calls before they reach you.
- Spam Detect — Flags suspected spam and scam calls in your caller ID so you can screen them. It doesn't block any calls.
You can switch between modes anytime, or pause Spam Protect to turn both off without canceling, from your line's Add-Ons section.
Web Filtering for Light Speed
Web Filtering helps keep lines safe and secure by blocking access to adult content on the web, helping keep family members under 18 within age-appropriate content. Web Filtering blocks access to adult web content when connected to the cellular network, showing an "Access Denied" page instead.
Web Filtering isn't foolproof. Make sure you're still taking additional steps to keep your family members safe online.
Content that Web Filtering blocks
Web spam and scams Phishing attacks, malware, command and control callbacks, web spam, proxy/anonymizers, potentially harmful domains, hacking, hate/discrimination, illegal downloads, weapons, and drugs.
Adult themes Nudity, sexuality, pornography, tasteless content, and child abuse content.
Safe Search Results are filtered on common search engines including Google, YouTube, Bing, and DuckDuckGo. When Web Filtering is on, Safe Search cannot be turned off.
Content that Web Filtering can't block
Web Filtering only applies to cellular network traffic. It can't block:
- Web browsing over Wi-Fi
- Email, text messages, or instant messaging
- Some third-party web browsers
- Content within apps themselves
VPNs and iCloud Private Relay Because VPNs reroute your web traffic, Web Filtering will not work correctly if iCloud Private Relay or another VPN is active on the device. Make sure these are turned off for Web Filtering to work properly.
You can turn Web Filtering on or off anytime from your line's Add-Ons section.
Getting a safety feature
Spam Detect for Warp and Spam Protect and Web Filtering for Light Speed are paid add-ons. Here's how to add one:
- Sign in to the US Mobile mobile app or web app.
- Go to your Lines dashboard.
- Select your line.
- Under Add-Ons, select the feature you want to add.
- Select Continue and review payment details to checkout.
Once added, your feature is active right away.
Spam Protect for Light Speed is currently only available on the US Mobile web app, not the mobile app. You'll also choose a starting mode before checkout — you can change it anytime after.
Managing your add-on
Spam Protect on Dark Star is included automatically and doesn't need to be added or managed. For your other safety add-ons, manage them anytime from your line's Add-Ons section:
- Cancel — Stops the add-on from renewing next cycle. It keeps working until then.
- Renew — After canceling, renew anytime before your cycle ends to keep it.
Other ways to reduce or block spam
There are several ways to reduce or block unwanted spam calls.
Register for the national "Do Not Call" registry
You can register your number with the National Do Not Call Registry to reduce telemarketing calls. While this won't stop all spam calls, it can help limit legitimate telemarketing outreach.
Use third-party apps
Several apps can help identify and block spam calls. Some are free, while others require a subscription. Popular options include Truecaller, Hiya, RoboKiller, and Nomorobo.
US Mobile is not affiliated with these services. They are provided only as examples.
Use native phone features
Many modern smartphones include built-in spam detection and call filtering features. These features may vary depending on your phone model and software version.
- Google Pixel
- Samsung Galaxy
- Turn on Filter spam calls to automatically block suspected spam callers.
- The Call Screen feature can screen unknown callers and filter robocalls.
- Samsung phones include Smart Call, which flags suspected spam calls in the Phone app.
- You can also turn on Caller ID and Spam Protection to help block scam or unknown callers.
