Network Coverage: AT&T vs T-Mobile (Mint)
AT&T runs its own network. Mint says on its coverage page that it’s on the T-Mobile network. So the coverage question is really AT&T vs T-Mobile where you live and work.
We don’t rate coverage ourselves. Check both maps for your address, and look at independent results from Ookla’s Speedtest reports and Opensignal for your area. One thing to know either way: Mint Unlimited includes 50GB of premium data a month, after which your speeds can drop.

AT&T’s advantages are stores and phone financing. If those don’t matter to you, it’s the most expensive way to get service here. Mint is the budget pick if you’re fine paying up front and staying on T-Mobile’s network. Also worth reading: Mint Mobile vs Verizon and Mint Mobile vs Visible.
How We Compared AT&T and Mint Mobile
US Mobile wrote this comparison and is one of the carriers in it. Every price was read on the carrier’s own plan pages or FCC Broadband Facts labels on , and we saved screenshots of those pages. Mint’s network is from its own coverage page. Where a carrier doesn’t publish something, we say “Carrier does not say” rather than guess. The first-year tables add only published prices and fees; your taxes depend on your address. The previous edition is the August 2026 edition, and the main article is updated as prices change.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is AT&T or Mint Mobile better in 2026?
For price, Mint: 6GB is $15/mo and Unlimited $30/mo on its 12-month plan, before taxes, while AT&T starts at $50/mo with AutoPay for 5GB of full-speed data. AT&T makes sense if you want stores, month-to-month billing on a big carrier, or up to 250GB of hotspot on Elite 2.0.
How much cheaper is Mint Mobile than AT&T?
For unlimited data, Mint Unlimited is $360 for 12 months and AT&T Extra 2.0 is $840 a year with AutoPay, so Mint saves $480 in plan charges before taxes. AT&T also adds a fee of up to $4.99 a line and a $35 activation fee, which widens the gap.
Does Mint Mobile use AT&T’s network?
No. Mint says on its coverage page that it’s on the T-Mobile network, so you’d be choosing between AT&T’s and T-Mobile’s coverage where you live. If you want AT&T’s network for less, Cricket Wireless runs on it, from $35/mo ($30 with AutoPay) with taxes included.
Is AT&T’s coverage better than Mint Mobile’s?
It depends on where you are, because they use different networks: AT&T’s own and T-Mobile’s. We don’t rate coverage ourselves. Check both maps for your address and independent tests from Ookla and Opensignal, then pick the network that’s strongest where you spend your time.
Why is AT&T considered such a poor value?
Mostly price. AT&T Value 2.0 is $50/mo with AutoPay for 5GB of full-speed data, plus taxes, up to $4.99 a line in fees and $35 activation. You’re paying for stores, phone financing and a postpaid account. AT&T’s higher tiers add far more data and hotspot, but cost $70 to $110/mo.
Is Mint Mobile’s $15 price real?
Yes, for the 6GB plan on a 12-month term: $180 up front, before taxes. Mint’s label says the 12-month price isn’t an introductory rate but doesn’t say what it renews at. Shorter terms start cheaper and then rise: the 3-month 6GB plan is $15/mo for the first term, then $25/mo.
Should I switch from AT&T to Mint Mobile?
If you want to pay less and can pay months up front, it saves a lot: $480 a year in plan charges on unlimited. Check T-Mobile’s coverage at your address first, since that’s Mint’s network. If you’d rather pay month to month, US Mobile Unlimited Starter is $25/mo with taxes included and access to all three major US wireless networks.
Can I get AT&T’s network without AT&T’s prices?
Yes. Cricket Wireless runs on AT&T’s network and includes taxes: Sensible 10GB is $35/mo ($30 with AutoPay) and Select Unlimited is $40/mo ($35 with AutoPay). In-store activation costs $25 a line, so signing up online saves a little more.
Which is better for families, AT&T or Mint Mobile?
AT&T’s per-line price drops with more lines: four lines of Value 2.0 are $120/mo with AutoPay before taxes, or $160/mo on Extra 2.0. We didn’t record Mint’s family pricing this month. US Mobile’s shared By the Gig 10GB plan is $44/mo for four lines with taxes included.
What is the best alternative to both AT&T and Mint Mobile?
US Mobile, named a Consumer Reports Top Rated Cell Phone Service Provider (2026). Consumer Reports does not endorse products or services. Unlimited Starter is $25/mo, month to month, with taxes included and 20GB of hotspot, and every line gets access to all three major US wireless networks.
