Looking to switch to phone carriers but want to keep your current phone number? You’re in the right place. Transferring your phone number to US Mobile is easy and only takes 5-10 minutes.
Carriers (including us!) might refer to this process as “porting”, “transferring”, “number transfer”, “switching”, or even “moving your number.” No matter the lingo used, it’s all the same thing: bringing your current number to your new service.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to seamlessly transfer your current number to US Mobile.

How to port your number to US Mobile
Step 1: Check Eligibility Before initiating the porting process, ensure that your current phone number is eligible for porting. All phone numbers from other carriers can be ported, but it’s essential to verify eligibility. You can always cancel your current contract early, but it is on you to pay the associated fees for ending early.
You may be ineligible if if your plan was set up through your job, or if you aren’t the primary account owner. Aren’t sure? We recommend reaching out to your current carrier’s customer support.
Also, please ensure that the number you have is a US-based number to avoid any issues later on in the porting process.
Step 2: Gather Necessary Information To initiate the porting process, you’ll need to gather some essential information from your current carrier:
- Account Holder’s Name
- Account Number
- Transfer PIN
- If you search your current carrier and the phrase “transfer pin” it will list where you can find this PIN exactly (though, usually it lives under your Profile Settings).
- Current Phone Number
- IMEI Number
- iOS: Settings > General > About > Scroll down to find IMEI
- Android: Settings > About Phone > Scroll down for IMEI
Companies may charge you to port your number, but you can ask whether any fees can be waived or negotiated. Once you request service from a new company, your old company cannot refuse to port your number, even if you owe money for an outstanding balance or termination fee.
Step 3: Choose Your US Mobile Plan While you’re gathering information, take the time to check out US Mobile’s plans and choose the one that best suits your needs. Whether you’re looking for unlimited talk, text, and data (as low as $15/month!) or a talk and text only plan, we have options to fit every lifestyle.
Step 4: Initiate the Porting Process Once you have all the necessary information and have chosen your US Mobile plan, it’s time to initiate the porting process (yay!).
Step 5: Provide Information and Documentation During the porting process, you’ll need to provide the information gathered in Step 2 to US Mobile. This includes your current phone number, your current carrier, your carrier account number and lastly your carrier/transfer pin.
Step 6: Porting Date and Time The porting of a number can generally take around 24-48 hours, depending on how cooperative the previous carrier is. In certain instances it can be longer for VoIP or landline numbers, which can take up to 7-10 business days. This is because it’s up to your previous carrier’s to release your number to us. While they are required to release it, we can’t confirm the amount of time it takes them to do so.
Our goal is to make this process as speedy as possible, so you can be connected as soon as possible.
Step 7: Await Confirmation Once you’ve provided all the necessary information and continued through our activation flow, sit back and relax! We’ll handle the rest of the process and confirm the successful porting of your phone number once it’s completed.
Step 8: Enjoy US Mobile Service Once the porting process is complete, you’ll be able to enjoy US Mobile’s reliable service with your existing phone number. You made it! Say hello to affordable plans and excellent coverage without sacrificing the convenience of your trusted digits.
Ready to make the switch? Good call (no pun intended). We’re excited to welcome you to US Mobile, where you are our top priority. See you on the other side!
